There are three main "types" of tiles:
| Ceramic: | Made from red or white clay, and the color and pattern is usually carried in the glaze. |  |
| Porcelain: | A newer form of ceramic tile, is made from fine porcelain clays and fired at much higher temperatures than ceramic tiles. Full body porcelain tiles carry the color and pattern throughout the tile, decreasing the potential for visible wear and tear. | |
| Natural Stone: | A natural product of the earth. Natural stone tiles have variation in color, texture, and appearance. Includes materials such as granite, marble, travertine, slate, and limestone. |
